The Flower Staircase – Flowers Want to Reach New Heights

Often, there are more beautiful flowers in the garden, on the balcony, and on the terrace than there is space for. The only solution is to go upwards – with a flower staircase. It provides space for many flowers.

The flower staircase is not a new trend, but it is still popular and a lovely way to display many flowers in a small space. After all, those beautiful flowers are too precious to hide behind other plants, right?

The Classic Flower Staircase

There's simply no way around the flower staircase. Why would there be? After all, it's timeless and showcases beautiful flowers wonderfully. Flower staircases come in various designs. They can be round or square, ornate and romantic, or simple and elegant. They can be made from wood or metal. But no matter which style is chosen, a flower staircase is always "in." The size and design depend on the gardener's taste. Whether big and bold or small and subtle – there are no limits to creativity. And if the models in the store don't appeal, you can always get crafty and build your own flower staircase. Or how about upcycling? An old folding ladder can easily be turned into a flower staircase. Of course, you can also build a real staircase to connect different areas of the garden.

The Flower Staircase Through the Seasons

The material and planting of the flower staircase determine the seasons. A flower staircase that is meant to stay outside during winter should be made from a durable material and be well-coated to ensure it remains beautiful and protected from the weather. Robust plants like boxwood and ivy look attractive year-round, while grasses not only look great in the fall but also form lovely patterns under snow and ice in the winter. Perennials like hostas will sprout again in the spring. If the flower staircase is only placed outside in the summer, you can fill it with seasonal blooming plants, as they won’t be able to stay in that location during the winter anyway.

Long-lasting Beauty

A metal flower staircase is a great option for keeping flowers in a small space throughout the year. When painted and coated, the flower staircase is highly weather-resistant and can remain outside in any kind of weather. When the blooming plants move to their winter quarters, the flower staircase can be adorned with various decorations. Arrangements made from twigs and moss add color, and when combined with Christmas decorations like baubles and star-shaped confetti, the flower staircase's location becomes particularly festive. A string of lights adds the perfect winter finishing touch. This way, the flower staircase remains a highlight in the garden, on the balcony, or on the terrace all year long.
