The Norway maple 'Royal Red' (Acer platanoides) is a conical, broad, deciduous large tree with decorative, purple-red leaves. The red shoots are also an interesting sight. In April, it also bears red-yellow flowers arranged in umbels. These produce brown winged fruits. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of around 15 metres and is around 8 metres wide. The Norway maple 'Royal Red' makes no particular demands on the soil.

Norway maple 'Royal Red' is a conical and broad-growing large tree with a loose crown. It usually reaches a height of 12 - 15 m and is approx. 6 - 8 m wide. Rapidly growing. Usually grows 30 - 40 cm per year.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the Norway maple 'Royal Red's are purple-red, opposite, lobed. They are about 15 - 20 cm tall. Red shoots. Norway maple 'Royal Red' turns bright red in autumn.

Bark

Dark grey, longitudinally furrowed bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The red-yellow flowers of Norway maple 'Royal Red' appear in corymbs in April.

Acer platanoides 'Royal Red' is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.
