The Japanese maple 'Dissectum' (Acer palmatum) is an umbrella-shaped, overhanging, deciduous shrub with decorative, deeply slit, light green leaves. It also bears purple-red flowers arranged in clusters in May. These produce red winged fruits. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, loose soil, it usually grows to a height of around 2 metres and is around 3 metres wide.

Growth

Japanese maple 'Dissectum' is an umbrella-shaped, overhanging shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.5 - 2 m and is approx. 2 - 3 m wide. Slow growing. Usually grows 10 - 15 cm per year.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The deciduous leaves of the Japanese maple 'Dissectum's are light green, deeply slit and opposite. They are about 6 - 11 cm in size. Japanese maple 'Dissectum' turns bright orange-red in autumn.

Flower

The purple-red flowers of the Japanese maple 'Dissectum' appear in clusters in May.

Root

Acer palmatum 'Dissectum' is a shallow-rooted plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Japanese maple 'Dissectum' has good frost hardiness.
