The Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) is a multi-stemmed, umbrella-shaped, picturesque large shrub that produces purple-red flowers arranged in clusters. They appear in May. These produce red-brown winged fruits. The Japanese maple also has cut, medium green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 7 metres and grows to around 7 metres wide.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese maples are medium green, cut, opposite, lobed. They are about 6 - 11 cm in size. Japanese maple turns bright orange-red in autumn.

The purple-red flowers of the Japanese maple appear in clusters in May.
