Mediterranean region to Caucasus.

Montpellier maple is a roundish growing large shrub or small tree. It usually reaches a height of 5 - 8 m and is approx. 4 - 7 m wide. As a rule, it grows 20 - 35 cm per year.

The deciduous leaves of the Montpellier maples are dark green, opposite, lobed. They are about 3 - 6 cm in size. Montpellier maple turns bright yellow in autumn.

Dark brown, fielded bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

The greenish-yellow flowers appear from April to May.

Acer monspessulanum is a heartroot.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Montpellier maple has good frost hardiness.

Normal soil.

Solitary

This plant has a low water requirement.

Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound dressing as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
