The Downy Japanese maple 'Aconitifolium' (Acer japonicum) is a multi-stemmed, picturesque large shrub with decorative, red wing fruits. It produces purple-red flowers arranged in clusters from April to May. The Downy Japanese maple 'Aconitifolium' also has deeply slit, medium green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, lime-free soil, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and grows to a width of around 5 metres.
