The Snake-bark maple (Acer capillipes) is an upright, loose large shrub or small tree that produces light yellow flowers arranged in clusters. They appear in May. These produce red-brown winged fruits. The Snake-bark maple also has dark green, light red veined leaves. Its bark is striped. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 9 metres and grows to a width of around 5 metres.

Snake-bark maple is an upright and loosely growing large shrub or small tree. It usually reaches a height of 7 - 9 m and is approx. 4 - 5 m wide. It usually grows 20 - 25 cm per year.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Snake-bark maples are dark green, light red veined and crenate. They are about 6 - 10 cm in size. Snake-bark maple turns bright crimson in autumn.

Bark

Striped bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The light yellow flowers of Snake-bark maple appear in clusters in May.

Root

Acer capillipes is a shallow-rooted plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
