A autumnal wind chime made from Physalis and pine cones.

As the golden season approaches, it's finally time for beautiful autumn decorations. Fall brings so many materials that can be used to create wonderful crafts. For example, a wind chime for the garden.

In autumn, the wind outside blows a little stronger than usual. And when the colorful leaves are already rustling, a wind chime in the garden creates a very special atmosphere. And the materials for it can almost all be found in nature.

Starting the autumn creatively

Wind chimes for the garden can quickly become a bit expensive, and often the different styles don't quite fit into the overall look of the garden. That's why it's convenient to make your own wind chime. You can design it exactly according to your wishes and get really creative. It's the perfect activity for a stormy autumn day.

For a wind chime with Physalis and pine cones, you'll need exactly those items. Additionally, you'll need a long branch, packing tape, scissors, and small bells. Why are Physalis so great? The lanterns of the plant don't collapse when they dry, and they are light enough to sway beautifully in the wind. The pine cones help prevent the strings from blowing around uncontrollably. And the bells create a melodic sound in the wind.

Wind chime made easy

For the wind chime, tie a piece of packing tape at one end of the branch, leaving the end trailing. At this end, you'll tie the various materials. The Physalis lanterns can easily be tied to the stems with a loop. Since it can get a bit windy in autumn, the lanterns should be tied securely. While pine cones don't have a stem to tie, the packing tape can be tied securely at various spots on them. Again, the knots should be tight and strong so that the wind chime doesn't fall apart at the slightest breeze. Finally, add the bells, because what would a wind chime be without making sound? Many wind chimes create music through sound rods – this one uses small bells instead.

Pretty and musical at the same time

The pine cones, Physalis, and bells are then tied to strings on the branch until the wind chime looks just right. However, it shouldn't be too tightly packed, so the individual strings don't get tangled in the wind. A mix of varying lengths looks just as pretty as a uniform shape. Once all the "musicians" are attached to the branch, you can tie another string at both ends. This string will allow you to hang the wind chime in its new spot in the garden. Any excess ends of the packing tape can be easily trimmed with scissors. When the wind sweeps through the autumn wind chime, a gentle ringing sound will fill the air, announcing the arrival of the stormy season.
