The Summer Jasmine – Anything but Unnoticed

That the Summer Jasmine belongs to the nightshade family is completely incomprehensible given the beautiful flowers of the plant. The white blossoms have nothing in common with a nightshade.

This exotic beauty enriches gardens, balconies, and terraces throughout the summer and can be grown either as a climbing plant or in a hanging basket.

Climbing expert in the garden

Summer Jasmine is perfect both as a climbing plant on the balcony or terrace and as a hanging plant in the garden or on the balcony. If planted in a pot, it should have some kind of support, such as a trellis on a house wall or a pyramid placed on top of the plant’s pot. With proper care, the plant can grow up to 10 meters in length. However, Summer Jasmine needs a sunny spot and enough water to thrive.

The path to exotic floral splendor

The flowers of Summer Jasmine are pure white and scentless. For them to beautify the terrace or balcony throughout the summer, it's important to use the right fertilizer. When kept as a potted plant, the Summer Jasmine cannot draw the necessary nutrients from the surrounding soil. A simple container plant fertilizer, applied once a week, is perfectly sufficient for the Summer Jasmine.

The right place for hibernation

Summer Jasmine is not winter-hardy and should be protected during the winter. Although it can tolerate short-term temperatures below freezing, the plant's tolerance should not be pushed to the limit. Summer Jasmine needs a cool and bright winter space. Suitable options include conservatories, greenhouses, winter tents, an unheated staircase, or generally unheated side rooms. Since Summer Jasmine requires little water when it has few leaves, it only needs watering in winter when the remaining moisture in the soil is insufficient. And don’t worry: Summer Jasmine does not grow at cold temperatures.
