The Money Tree – The Asian Good Luck Charm

The Money Tree promises only good things for its owners. In addition to the auspicious symbolism associated with it, this popular houseplant is an impressive presence that should not be missing from any home.

It's no wonder that the Money Tree is one of the most popular houseplants. Its large, vibrant green leaves and beautifully braided trunk make it a stunning addition to any space.

**The Money Tree as a Houseplant**

In the wild, the Money Tree can grow up to 20 meters tall and produce large yellow flowers. The chances of it doing so as a houseplant are relatively low. Nevertheless, the Money Tree offers plenty of possibilities even indoors.

**The Money Tree as a Symbol of Luck**

The beautiful houseplant already promises good fortune with its name. According to Feng Shui teachings, its leaves, which roughly resemble green hands, are believed to grasp luck and store it within its braided trunk for protection. This is why the plant is especially popular in its native China as a housewarming gift and is even called the "Money Tree." Additionally, the five-leafed crown of the Money Tree is associated with the five elements in Asian culture, further enhancing its symbolism of good fortune. To emphasize this meaning, five plants can be arranged in a circle and their trunks braided together.

**Beautiful on the Outside, Harmful on the Inside**

The braided trunk of most Money Trees is undoubtedly an eye-catcher. However, this feature is artificially created through cultivation. A single, straight trunk is actually healthier for the plant. When multiple trunks are intertwined, they hinder each other, leading to pressure points and injuries. These weak spots make it easier for diseases and pests to take hold, potentially causing long-term damage. While younger trees can sometimes still be untangled, those looking for a long-lasting Money Tree should opt for one with a single trunk.
