The ideal neighbors for geraniums

Geraniums on balconies and terraces also feel at home in the company of other plants. There are many suitable planting partners that add the finishing touch to the garden arrangement.

Whether they complement the blooming splendor of the geraniums or enchant with exotic scents, the selection of companion plants is diverse and large.

Plants with and without flowers go well with geraniums

The magnificent geraniums are a class of their own. Anyone who regularly fills their balcony boxes in the summer probably rarely misses them. However, it is also important to look out for companion plants for geraniums. Of course, the vibrant beauty of geraniums immediately catches the eye. But for those who want a more refined design, adding suitable companion plants for geraniums is the way to go. One can choose between other blooming plants and those without flowers. Both have their charm. This principle also applies to large containers such as troughs or pots that adorn the terrace.

Companion plants can also be fragrant

In general, petunias are a great companion plant for geraniums. They get along well but can also steal the spotlight from each other with their impressive bloom. A simple trick can help balance this out. Combine them with flowers that present themselves differently, either in terms of bloom or growth height. This creates a balance that appears harmonious to the viewer. Verbena and vanilla flowers do this job well and also spread a delicate fragrance. Other good companion plants for geraniums include the charming Calibrachoa, the delicate Snow-in-Summer, and the distinctive Blue Daisy. The low-growing Lobelia also plays the mediator role wonderfully, as does the Cape Daisy with its radiating flower crown.

Don't overlook grasses as companions

Not only blooming connectors make great companion plants for geraniums in between their lush blooms. The wide world of grasses is also at your disposal. Lemongrass and blue fescue are just examples. Upright or gracefully overhanging stems—this is a matter of personal taste. Then there are colorful coleus with their individual appearances as companion plants for geraniums, along with green clover. Or would you prefer something special? The wonderful geranium with decorative leaves is an option, with its striking foliage. The small flowers are rather modest compared to the blooms of the upright and hanging geraniums.
