The Black chokeberry 'Viking' (Aronia melanocarpa) produces black fruits. They are round and have a sweet and sour flavour. Well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich, undemanding soil and a sunny to semi-shady location create ideal conditions for a high-yielding harvest from August. Its white flowers are a beautiful sight. With its upright, runner-forming and multi-stemmed growth, the Black chokeberry 'Viking' grows to around 1.5 m high and 1.2 m wide.

Black chokeberry 'Viking' is an upright, runner-forming and multi-stemmed small shrub that can reach a height of 1 - 1.5 m and a width of 0.8 - 1.2 m. It usually grows 5 - 20 cm per year.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Black chokeberry 'Viking' are medium green, ovate, alternate. They are about 2 - 5 cm in size. Black chokeberry 'Viking' turns a bright dark red in autumn.

Flower

Aronia melanocarpa 'Viking' forms white flowers arranged in panicles from May.

Fruit

Aronia melanocarpa 'Viking' forms black, round fruits.

Root

Finely branched.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
