The Nikko fir (Abies homolepis) is a tree that grows pyramidally and usually reaches a height of around 30 metres and a width of around 8 metres. Its needle-shaped leaves have a medium green colour. This shrub is well tolerant of frost and prefers humus-rich, nutrient-rich, loamy, slightly acidic soil in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Nikko fir is a pyramidal growing tree. It usually reaches a height of 20 - 30 m and is approx. 6 - 8 m wide. As a rule, it grows 30 - 40 cm per year.

Leaves

The Nikko fir is evergreen. Its needles are medium green.

Bark

Grey, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Fruit

Brown, cylindrical cones. The young cones have a green-purple colour.

Root

Abies homolepis is a shallow-rooted or deep-rooted tree.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Nikko fir has good frost hardiness.
