Thick air? No problem with the right plants!

Of course, plants beautify the surroundings. A room without greenery, whether it produces striking flowers or not, feels incomplete. Even simple green leafy plants are enough to foster a friendly and inviting atmosphere. This is why plants can be found in hallways, entryways, waiting rooms, and not least in offices of all sizes. But these green companions offer much more. They not only serve aesthetics, but they bring real benefits as well.

The very fact that plants master photosynthesis makes them so fascinating and desirable for our lives. This process captures harmful carbon dioxide from the air and reliably converts it into the essential oxygen we need. This works not only outdoors but also equally well in enclosed spaces. Especially in winter, this ability should not be underestimated, as we naturally don't ventilate as often or for long periods. For this reason alone, it is important not to do without green companions, even in bedrooms.

But that's far from all the amazing abilities plants possess. They also automatically increase the humidity. They are so grateful for the thirst-quenching water provided by their owners that they give most of it back to their surroundings. This is especially beneficial during the warmer months when the room temperature often drops due to open windows and doors. Plants filter, clean, and improve the air we breathe. At this point, one might consider skipping expensive electric air purifiers. Acquiring houseplants is more affordable and much more enjoyable. But which ones should you choose?

In fact, just like with humans, plants also have particularly pronounced talents. Some may look better, while others might be more capable. The question of which plants contribute to a better indoor climate and healthy air quality has even been explored by NASA, who applied the results to their space stations. For example, researchers highlight the beautiful Gerbera with its floral crown. It is one of the all-rounders that doesn't just settle for generously releasing oxygen. It can also filter out carcinogenic substances like benzene without becoming ill itself. This miraculous and effective ability is shared with other beautiful bloomers like the chrysanthemum and peace lily. By the way, make sure to provide the chrysanthemum with plenty of water, as you know how much it gives back! The ivy also demonstrates its cleaning abilities, which border on magic. This evergreen plant, which can create an idyllic atmosphere, is considered one of the best natural air purifiers. It doesn't even shy away from cigarette smoke. Another leaf plant that is equally dedicated to improving air quality is the Dieffenbachia, with its impressive leaves. The Philodendron and Schefflera also join the ranks of plant cleaners. If you’re looking for plenty of oxygen combined with a vacation-like atmosphere, the Kentia palm is the ideal choice.

A wonderful room companion that combines many great qualities is the "Spider Plant." Few houseplants are as grateful as this one. The all-rounder comes into the house with green and white foliage. This leafy decor not only enhances the ambiance but also improves air quality. No environment can stop it from increasing the oxygen content. The driest office air is improved, and the strongest kitchen fumes can't harm it. It is also a master of growth. Last but not least, it can easily be housed in a flowerpot or a hanging basket.

For those who haven't found enough options yet, consider the Snake Plant, the Madagascar Palm, or the Sword Fern. And for the true beauty enthusiasts? Of course, an Orchid!
