The rose – wellness and beauty in one

For many years, the rose has been considered THE symbol of beauty. No wonder it is the queen of flowers in the garden and on the balcony, and no flower radiates more elegance than the rose.

But roses are not just beautiful, they also make you beautiful. If you delve a bit into cosmetics, you'll quickly find that roses are often found in cosmetic products. However, you don’t always have to buy them; you can also make them yourself!

Medicine from Your Own Garden

The scent of a rose alone has a calming, reconciling effect and comforts in times of negative thoughts. No wonder, then, that the rose is not only found in the garden but also in various cosmetic products. The leaves of roses contain essential oils that give off the rose’s scent. These essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties and have been used for years to treat eczema and minor household injuries. Even insect bites can be relieved with roses. Simply crush a few leaves between your fingers and rub the juice that comes out onto the bite. In fact, there is nothing that roses can't do: they help with digestive disorders, strengthen the circulatory system and the heart, and have a decongestant effect. All fragrant roses found in the garden can be used. The only important thing is that the roses are not sprayed. Whether in tea, oil, or water: the effect of rose petals is unique and has been appreciated for thousands of years.

Wellness for Body and Soul

Making essences from roses is not as difficult as it may seem at first. You can easily make rose petal tea, rose water, or rose gel yourself, using roses from your own garden. For rose petal tea, boil ¾ liter of water and pour it into an empty teapot. Let the hot water cool for about 10 minutes. Then add the leaves of an unsprayed rose. Once the leaves are in the water, immediately put the lid on the teapot to preserve the essential oils. Rose petal tea has a calming and relaxing effect. Rose water is made in a similar way. Simply pour boiling water over fresh rose petals, then add pure alcohol in a 1:10 ratio. Afterward, pour the mixture into bottles and seal them airtight. Rose water is excellent as an anti-inflammatory facial toner. For rose gel, just mix 80ml of rose water with a teaspoon of gelling agent. Gelling agents can be bought at drugstores or natural food stores. This gel works wonders on insect bites and cools sunburns.

Effective Blooms for Stockpiling

Processing dried rose petals is a bit more labor-intensive but much more efficient. The rose petals can be stored until needed. To do this, the roses are harvested in the morning, before their essential oils evaporate in the heat. The flowers are then loosely spread out in a well-ventilated area and turned occasionally until completely dry. Afterward, the dried petals can be processed. To make tea from dried rose petals, simply pour boiling water over a handful of petals, let it steep for 5 minutes, and strain the tea through a tea strainer. The tea can be enjoyed both hot and cold, with different effects each time. When hot, rose petal tea has a blood-cleansing and relaxing effect. When cold, it serves as a refreshing drink on hot summer days. Even better for the skin is a steam bath with rose petals. Simply place the dried petals in a bowl, pour hot water over them, and hold your head covered with a towel over the bowl. Or how about a hot bath with rose petals? The wellness possibilities with dried rose petals are virtually endless!
