The Bridal Bouquet – The Most Important Accessory on the Most Beautiful Day of Your Life

The bridal bouquet is as essential to a wedding as the bride and groom themselves. And no bouquet is surrounded by as many traditions as the bridal bouquet. Some traditions have faded, while others have become newly established.

Flowers speak more than a thousand words, and the right floral decoration truly makes the wedding something special. On this day, the bridal bouquet is the most important accessory for the bride and should never be missed.

Faith and Traditions

What many people today don't know: in the past, the groom selected the flowers for the bridal bouquet and brought the finished bouquet to the bride on the wedding day. This tradition has faded over time, largely because the bridal bouquet is often coordinated with the rest of the floral decoration and, above all, must please the bride. Today, it is common for the couple to choose the flowers for the bouquet together and coordinate them with the floral arrangements for the registry office, church, and reception hall. However, one tradition remains: the bridal bouquet is thrown to the unmarried female guests, and whoever catches it is said to be the next bride. Since many brides want to keep their bridal bouquet as a memento, a second bouquet is often made for the throwing. This bouquet looks very similar to the bridal bouquet but is often a bit smaller.

From A for Appearance to Z for Arrangement

The main rule for the bridal bouquet is that it must primarily please the bride. After all, it is the most important accessory on the most beautiful day of the couple's life. Therefore, the bridal bouquet should be put together individually based on the couple's preferences. The color, style, and shape should not only complement the wedding dress but also match the groom's suit. Additionally, it is a good idea to ensure that the flowers are in season. The florist should decide which flowers are best suited for the bridal bouquet and will stay fresh for a longer time. One can trust them blindly in this matter. Even though dyed flowers can look very beautiful, caution should be exercised: the color of the flowers could transfer and potentially damage the wedding dress. Of course, this must be avoided. But again, florists know exactly what to do and offer useful tips to ensure the bridal bouquet stays fresh for as long as possible.

Which flowers should it be?

The first choice of flowers for the bridal bouquet are probably always roses. However, generally, anything that appeals to the bride is allowed. After all, the wedding should be the most beautiful day in the couple's life, and everything must be perfect, including their personal and individual tastes. If the bride has a favorite flower, it should of course be included in the bouquet. The color also depends entirely on personal preference. Usually, it’s enough to simply share personal likes and wishes with the florist and trust their expertise. They also know best which shape fits the desired flowers. Traditionally, the Biedermeier bouquet, i.e., the round bouquet, is very popular. But drop-shaped and waterfall bouquets are also an option and, with the right flowers, can appear especially romantic. When it comes to the bridal bouquet, pretty much anything goes as long as it suits the couple and the wedding.
