The Small Animal Meadow – A Paradise for Little Rodents

Small animals like rabbits and others love fresh snacks. And even more, they love a summer day outdoors in the garden. Why not create a buffet for the little rodents? This can be easily done with a small animal meadow.

Small animal meadows are easy to create and fit perfectly into any garden, where a little dandelion on the lawn is no problem. Because the little rodents especially love that.

Special Snacks on the Small Animal Meadow

Rodents love fresh greens. And because the best way to enjoy them is fresh from the meadow, there are special seed mixes for small animal meadows. These mixes make sure that exactly what rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals love will sprout on the meadow. This includes dandelion, but also clover, sorrel, and plantain. Of course, the seeds can also be spread individually on an already existing meadow. However, this is more time-consuming than directly spreading a ready-made seed mix across the meadow. The lawn mixes for small animal meadows come in different package sizes, each suitable for a specific lawn area.

Not Just for Rodents

A small animal meadow in the garden benefits not only the little pets but also wild garden residents. Other rodents and birds happily nibble on the wild-growing treats, and bees and butterflies enjoy the occasional flower in the small animal meadow. For those who don’t have a garden or space for a meadow but still want to provide fresh snacks for their rodents, the small animal meadow can also be created in miniature. The lawn seed can simply be sown in pots, which can then be placed in the pets’ enclosure. This way, the small animals can enjoy the fresh snacks from the meadow indoors. In the summer, the meadow-to-go can easily be placed on the balcony.

From the Pen to the Meadow

If you keep your rodents in an outdoor enclosure, you can easily connect the small animal meadow with the outdoor pen in the garden. The pen can be connected to a free-range area, allowing the rodents to roam without the risk of escape. This area can then be planted with the seeds for the small animal meadow. However, it is important to ensure that the rodents are protected from predators. Therefore, the free-range area should be protected on all sides, especially from above. In the summer, shaded spots are also essential to prevent the little animals from overheating. When juicy snacks from the small animal meadow are available, the rodents can’t resist and have plenty of space to run around.
