The Kalanchoe – Immortal Beauty

Anyone who has a Kalanchoe as a houseplant will be amazed by its long-lasting beauty. But the Kalanchoe offers more than just its looks.

Don't have a green thumb but can't live without plants? No problem, the Kalanchoe is very easy to care for and undemanding. It’s perfect if you haven’t discovered your gardening talents yet.

The Houseplant with Exotic Roots

The Kalanchoe is one of the best-selling houseplants. No wonder, because this plant not only beautifies the house but also the garden or balcony. The houseplant originally comes from China but is widely spread in South and Southeast Africa as well as Madagascar. The name Kalanchoe is derived from the Chinese term "Kalan Chau," which was translated into Latin and is now called Kalanchoe. Today, there are about 125 known species of this houseplant.

Long-lasting Beauty

The Kalanchoe is classified as a short-day plant. This means that the houseplant blooms during the winter months when the days provide less than 12 hours of daylight. However, to keep the Kalanchoe's beauty intact throughout the year, you can trick the plant. By exposing it to light or darkness, you can artificially create "short days." Simply placing a cardboard box or a bucket over the Kalanchoe will block out the daylight and shorten the days for the plant.

Low-maintenance Companion

A Kalanchoe is the ideal houseplant for people without a green thumb. It is easy to care for and not particularly susceptible to diseases or pests. Due to its thick, fleshy leaves, the Kalanchoe, being a blooming succulent, requires little care, as it stores water in its leaves. And not only is the Kalanchoe a beautiful indoor plant, but it also thrives outdoors. However, the temperature should not drop below 12 degrees Celsius.
