Flower Bulbs in the Rock Garden – How to Achieve Vibrant Colors

To grow flower bulbs in a rock garden, you don’t need much. The flower bulbs greatly enhance the stone bed and make a strong impression.

Gravel and pebbles give the rock garden a well-maintained appearance. Regularly removing leaves and raking the gravel is all that's needed, making it very low maintenance. Just don’t over-fertilize: the mulch layer of gravel is sufficient.

Another beautiful idea is using flower pots in gravel. This is especially useful for creating a rock garden in a narrow front yard or border. You can plant flower bulbs, such as tulips, in clay pots and place them in the ground instead of planting individual flowers. For a more unique look and easier handling, you can let the pots extend above the ground. Spread gravel around the pots, and you can even use annual flower bulbs in the rock garden without needing to redesign everything. The pots allow for easy plant swaps.
