The Black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) is an upright, clump-forming perennial that produces creamy white flowers arranged in panicles with a strong fragrance from August to October. Its pinnate, serrated leaves are dark green. In a semi-shady to shady, wind-protected location with well-drained, humus-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to around 1 metre wide. The Black cohosh is well tolerant of frost.

Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- This perennial should be cut back in autumn / late autumn when the plant begins to shrivel up.
