SpringRing: A revolution in nursery production

The SpringRing system combines the advantages of container and bale production and offers an innovative solution to cultivate plants healthier and more efficiently. This system, originally developed in England, is used in nurseries such as Lorberg and promotes healthy root structures and more flexible planting times, including summer plantings.

The SpringRing system in detail

The SpringRing system enables year-round planting. The plants are taken from outdoor quarters and placed in air pots that ensure optimal ventilation. Due to the air permeability of the containers and the unique design of the system, the roots' growth is stopped by contact with oxygen and the formation of fine lateral roots is stimulated.

The Air-Pots are made of a special material that encloses the root ball and creates an ideal growing environment. The roots are fully developed within one growing season, so planting can be carried out without any problems. For larger solitary trees, the container can be enlarged to cultivate trees with ball diameters of up to 250 cm.

Advantages of the SpringRing system

  1. Optimal root growth: Compared to conventional containers, SpringRing containers prevent circular root growth (ring roots). Constant ventilation encourages the roots to spread and the root system develops finely and evenly. This improves the stability and growth of the plants in the new location.
  2. Healthier plants: Thanks to the air-permeable container, the root system is continuously supplied with oxygen, which leads to significantly better nutrient and water absorption. This better absorption capacity has been proven in independent studies showing up to 75% faster growth compared to conventional outdoor cultivation. Woody plants from Air-Pot containers have stronger fine root formation, which makes the plants more robust and increases their adaptability after planting.
  3. Optimal drainage and ventilation: The special design of the containers ensures excellent drainage and prevents the formation of waterlogging. This creates ideal growth conditions because the root area is evenly supplied with air. This ventilated environment promotes the growth of healthy soil microorganisms, which enrich the soil with nutrients and therefore support plant growth.
  4. Less transplant stress: Another advantage is that no root pruning is required during planting. Because the fine roots remain intact, plants can grow quickly and eliminate the need to reduce crown volume. The system enables immediate full plant growth and ensures high plant quality.
  5. Avoiding ring growth: Unlike closed containers, the Air-Pot system results in horizontal root growth without circular deformations. The lack of ring roots enables quick and stable rooting in the new location, which accelerates the growth of the plant.
  6. Less transplant stress: Thanks to the SpringRing system, the plants retain their complete fine root structure when transplanting, which significantly reduces transplant stress. Since no root pruning is necessary and the roots adapt more quickly to the new location, there is no classic transplant shock. The plants can immediately grow at full strength, resulting in a higher survival rate and faster establishment.

Year-round planting for maximum flexibility

Thanks to the SpringRing system, Lorberg is able to offer plants all year round. This flexibility in planting times helps ensure that projects can be realized regardless of seasonal restrictions. This is a huge advantage, especially in urban environments, where planting dates are often tightly scheduled.

The SpringRing system revolutionizes nursery production by enabling healthier root systems and more flexible planting times. It offers a perfect combination of container and ball plant culture and improves plant growth through optimal ventilation and root care.
