Climate trees for children - field maples find a new home!

Over the past few months, the Bavarian Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Ground Construction Association (VGL Bayern) has donated a total of six field maples to schools, kindergartens and an open-air museum in collaboration with the Lorberg tree nursery. The trees will not only beautify the outdoor areas of the facilities, but also provide practical benefits: In the coming weeks, they will unfurl a shady canopy of leaves to protect the children from too much sun and heat while they are outdoors.Construction work on the new playground at Nandlstadt primary and secondary school (Freising district) was completed by the specialist company Thoma Garten- und Landschaftsbau at the start of school in September 2024. Additional greening of the grounds followed during the fall vacations. Thoma also planted one of the donated climate trees, which are known for their drought, heat and late frost tolerance. As part of the expansion of the St. Georg daycare center in Großweil (district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen), new plants were planted in the area in October, including a field maple. The work was carried out by Knittel Gartengestalter and the local building yard.Pupils from Year 2 at the elementary school on Grafinger Straße in the east of Munich also planted their schoolyard in October. Under the guidance of their teacher, the garden working group first dug a planting hole. Then, together with experts from Niedermaier Gärten & Freiräume, the young gardeners professionally planted a field maple. The company Garten & Landschaftsbau Ulrich Haake will soon be enriching the Heßstraße municipal nursery in the center of Munich with another tree.During the summer months, the Bajuwarenhof open-air museum in Kirchheim near Munich welcomes numerous school classes taking part in the museum's educational program. Two trees were added here on the neighboring toboggan hill. They not only offer the pupils shade, but also a quiet place for breaks. All six trees were installed in May 2024 as part of the “Bayern Cup” in Kirchheim. VGL Bayern organized the two-day professional competition for budding landscape gardeners on the grounds of the State Garden Show. One of the tasks was to place the field maples on the competition areas. Following the competition, the completed areas illustrated the broad spectrum of gardening and landscaping to visitors. After the end of the State Garden Show, the temporary areas were dismantled and the search for a new location for the trees began. Now the trees have found a permanent home, much to the delight of the children.

Trees: Acer campestre 'Elsrijk' as H 3xv mDb 14-16t.
