The beautiful balcony box in autumn: it doesn't always have to be grey!

As the summer weather noticeably fades, many balcony plants often begin to wilt. This varies depending on the weather and the type of planting, but when there's nothing more to be done, the decorations must be reluctantly discarded or wintered.

Basically, there are two options for the fall season. One is to replant with autumn flowers like heather or evergreen, low grasses. The other option is to add winter decorations such as twigs and decorate them with a fall touch.

If you don't want to replant, you can fill the boxes and pots with various types of twigs. This way, the container can stay outside all winter long. During autumn, this yellow-green base can be beautifully decorated with artificial or handmade ornaments, such as ceramic pumpkins, real pumpkins, or dried lantern flowers. Hardware stores and craft shops offer a variety of decorations that can even be reused next year. Garland with autumn leaves or individual bundles of red berries attached to wire are also perfect additions, allowing you to place them anywhere you like.

Countless autumn bloomers offer a wide range of design possibilities. A classic among autumn plants is heather, which now comes in many colors. To protect the plants well from frost, it is recommended to use particularly large boxes or pots, if possible, to provide more soil volume. When planting, it is important to soak the root ball in water beforehand so that it can fully absorb it. If you want to leave these plants in the pot until the next spring, you can also plant bulbs of early bloomers. In general, plants like gaultheria and similar ones, which adorn themselves with colorful, usually red fruits in the autumn, also create a beautiful and vibrant arrangement for the fall.
