With its brown leaf colouring, Leatherleaf sedge (Carex buchananii) is a decorative design element in the garden, but with its upright and clump-forming growth it also adorns containers on balconies or terraces. The red-brown flower fronds adorn this grass from summer onwards. It feels most at home in a sunny to semi-shady location with a well-drained, loose, nutrient-rich soil. In favourable conditions, this grass reaches a height of approx. 40 cm and grows up to 40 cm wide.

Upright, clump-forming.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The wintergreen leaves of Leatherleaf sedge are brown, matt, with entire margins.

Flower

The red-brown, spike-shaped flowers appear in July.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Soil

Standard container plant soil.
Normal soil.

Use

Tub, solitary, group planting

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

The plant must be protected from winter moisture.
