The Japanese barberry 'Bagatelle' (Berberis thunbergii) is a dense, spherical dwarf shrub with decorative, red fruits. These are small. It produces yellow flowers in May. The Japanese barberry 'Bagatelle' also has egg-shaped, purple-red leaves. In a sunny location with well-drained, humus-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 60 cm and is approx. 80 cm wide.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese barberry 'Bagatelle' are purple-red, ovate and alternate. They are about 1 - 2 cm in size. Japanese barberry 'Bagatelle' turns bright scarlet in autumn.

Flower

The yellow flowers appear in May.

The red fruits of Berberis thunbergii 'Bagatelle' are particularly decorative. They appear in September and are small.
