The Japanese barberry 'Atropurpurea Nana' (Berberis thunbergii) is a compact, roundish dwarf shrub with decorative, shiny, oval fruits that stay on for a very long time. It produces yellow-red flowers in May. The Japanese barberry 'Atropurpurea Nana' also has egg-shaped, dark red leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich, acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 60 cm and is approx. 1 m wide.
