The Golden barberry (Berberis stenophylla) is a sprawling, loose shrub that produces golden-yellow flowers. They appear from May to June. These produce black-blue, round fruits. The Golden barberry also has lanceolate, dark green leaves. Its bark is brown-yellow. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of approx. 2.5 metres and grows to a width of approx. 2.5 metres. The Golden barberry makes no special demands on the soil.

Growth

Golden barberry is a sprawling and loose-growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 2 - 2.5 m and is approx. 2 - 2.5 m wide.

Leaves

The evergreen leaves of the Golden barberry are dark green, lanceolate. They are about 1 - 2 cm in size.

Bark

Brown-yellow bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The golden yellow flowers appear from May to June.

Root

Densely branched.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady, wind-protected position.

The Golden barberry has good frost hardiness.
