The Barberry 'Superba' (Berberis ottawensis) is a loose, overhanging shrub with decorative, light red, elongated fruits that stay on for a very long time. These are small. It produces yellow-red flowers arranged in umbels from May to June. The Barberry 'Superba' also bears roundish, dark red leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of around 4 metres and is around 4 metres wide. The Barberry 'Superba' makes no special demands on the soil.

Growth

Barberry 'Superba' is a loose and overhanging shrub. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 4 m and is approx. 3 - 4 m wide.

Shoots

The shoots of Berberis ottawensis 'Superba' are spiny.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of Barberry 'Superba' are dark red, roundish and alternate. Barberry 'Superba' turns bright orange in autumn.

Bark

Red-brown bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The yellow-red flowers of Barberry 'Superba' appear in umbels from May to June.

Fruit

The light red, elongated berries of Berberis ottawensis 'Superba' are particularly decorative. These appear from August and are small. Very long-lasting.
