The Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' (Amelanchier laevis) is a large, upright shrub that produces white, star-shaped flowers arranged in clusters. They appear from April to May. These produce black-red, round fruits from July. They are medium-sized. The Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' also has matt, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. The bronze-coloured shoots are also an interesting sight. In a sunny to semi-shady location, it usually reaches a height of around 8 metres and grows to around 6 metres wide. The Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' makes no particular demands on the soil.

Growth

Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' is an upright growing large shrub. It usually reaches a height of 3 - 8 m and is approx. 3 - 6 m wide. It usually grows 50 - 60 cm per year.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' are dark green, ovate, matt, alternate, serrated. They are about 3 - 7 cm in size. Bronze-coloured shoots. Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' turns bright copper-brown in autumn.

Flower

The white, star-shaped flowers of Allegheny serviceberry 'Ballerina' appear in clusters from April to May.

Fruit

The black-red, medium-sized berries have a sweet, tasty flavour. The flesh of these round berries is juicy. Ripening time from July.

Root

Amelanchier laevis 'Ballerina' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms densely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
