The Japanese Zelkova (Zelkova serrata) is a sprawling, broad, large tree that produces green-brown flowers. They appear from April to May. The Japanese Zelkova also has pinnate, dark green leaves. Its bark is gray and scaly. In a sunny to semi-shady location with nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 25 m and is around 22 m wide.

Distribution

China to Japan.

Growth

Japanese Zelkove is a spreading and broadly growing large tree. It usually reaches a height of 20 - 25 m and is approx. 18 - 22 m wide.

Shoots

The shoots of Zelkova serrata are smooth and brown.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese Zelkova serrata are dark green, pinnate and serrated. They are about 6 - 12 cm in size. The leaves are bright orange-yellow in the fall.

Bark

Gray, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flowering

The green-brown flowers appear from April to May.

Root

Zelkova serrata is a heartroot plant.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
